SAN FRANCISCO -- Technical talent recruitment agency Speak With A Geek released its diversity placement statistics today. The figures show promise, particularly among women, whose placements in technical positions jumped 7% in April over the previous month.

“The underrepresentation of women and minorities in technical roles puts companies, industries, even an entire nation’s economy at a disadvantage,” explained Grant Conyers, Executive Vice President of Speak With A Geek. “When we fail to fully leverage the entire spectrum of technical talent that is available to us, society suffers. Speak With A Geek addresses that problem by connecting organizations in need of top-tier talent with qualified and diverse candidates.”

Speak With A Geek’s diversity and inclusion service initiatives have yielded an improvement in women placements from 14.2% in March to 21.2% in April.

While third-party research shows female developers make up only 5.6% of activity on Stack Overflow, many employers are continually trying to increase their percentage of women in technical roles. Since many staffing and recruiting agencies are more client-focused, their capabilities in candidate sourcing to offer equal opportunities to qualified minorities can be limited.
