Introducing LR's Women in Comms Online

Light Reading is bringing its popular women's breakfast series online with the launch of our new Women in Comms website, a place where women in the industry can meet to discuss important issues, share resources and slowly chip away at the gender imbalance in the industry together.

You can find the new site here, under the Business/Employment keyword on the Light Reading home page.

And, yes, this is the third rebrand for Light Reading's Women in "X" initiative, but the point is -- we want to be as inclusive as possible as the gender imbalance affects women in comms, tech, telecom, STEM and frankly, many other industries outside of just the ones we've mentioned. (See Breakfast of Champions: Women in Tech at BTE, Women in Tech Coming Into Focus and Women in Telecom: Collaboration Critical to New IP.)

This will be a site for all women looking to strengthen the roles they play in the workforce and help other women do the same. With help from our partners and live events, this will be place to have constructive conversations, learn about the industry and empower women's advancement.

Light Reading will be hosting two more Women in Comms breakfast events this year. Join us in Dallas ahead of the NFV Everywhere show on September 16, and in London the morning of the OSS in the Era of SDN & NFV one-day event on November 4.

We hope you'll peruse the site and join in the discussion. As always, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or let us know directly on the site what you'd like to see us do to help support and empower Women in Comms. We are excited and prepared to help make a real difference!

About the Author(s)

Sarah Thomas

Director, Women in Comms

Sarah Thomas's love affair with communications began in 2003 when she bought her first cellphone, a pink RAZR, which she duly "bedazzled" with the help of superglue and her dad.

She joined the editorial staff at Light Reading in 2010 and has been covering mobile technologies ever since. Sarah got her start covering telecom in 2007 at Telephony, later Connected Planet, may it rest in peace. Her non-telecom work experience includes a brief foray into public relations at Fleishman-Hillard (her cussin' upset the clients) and a hodge-podge of internships, including spells at Ingram's (Kansas City's business magazine), American Spa magazine (where she was Chief Hot-Tub Correspondent), and the tweens' quiz bible, QuizFest, in NYC.

As Editorial Operations Director, a role she took on in January 2015, Sarah is responsible for the day-to-day management of the non-news content elements on Light Reading.

Sarah received her Bachelor's in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She lives in Chicago with her 3DTV, her iPad and a drawer full of smartphone cords.

Away from the world of telecom journalism, Sarah likes to dabble in monster truck racing, becoming part of Team Bigfoot in 2009.
