SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), today announced the availability of 14 internships -- up from seven in 2014 -- for people who want to obtain real-world development experience from leading networking technologists while contributing to the industry's largest SDN and NFV platform.

Expansion of the 2015 OpenDaylight Internship Program reflects the growing demand for developers with expertise in OpenDaylight with over 100 jobs available from a range of companies including AT&T, Verizon and more. As the OpenDaylight community prepares for its third and fourth software releases in 2015, interns will work directly with code and the people who are delivering the industry's foundational open platform for SDN and NFV.

"If you want to increase your chances of being employable in the networking industry, there's no better way to meet people and gain real world experience than as a developer on the open source OpenDaylight Project," said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. "We see more and more companies every day who are looking for people with knowledge and expertise in OpenDaylight. We will only see that number climb in 2015 and beyond. Interns can expand their knowledge of both traditional and emerging networking technologies and protocols and work with mentors on projects such as SDN Proof-of-Concepts, XMPP and AMQP interfaces to OpenDaylight, or on self-submitted projects. Nine internship opportunities are available through OpenDaylight directly for college and university students. Each student will work remotely and receive a stipend. Five additional OpenDaylight internship opportunities are available through Outreachy, the FOSS outreach program that helps people from groups underrepresented in free and open source software.
