Metcalfe Gets Into Parc Party Mode

Ethernet turns 40 on May 22, and Bob Metcalfe, called the Father of Ethernet (by the media, at least), will be back in Silicon Valley to celebrate.

It's more than cake and ice cream. (Actually, sources could not confirm cake and ice cream.) There's a two-day conference being planned around the theme of innovation -- Metcalfe's subject of choice as a professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Here's Metcalfe describing the planning in his own words, speaking from a terrace at PARC, the "scene of the crime", so to speak -- the site of that first Ethernet memo 40 years ago.

It's one of two videos we recorded with Metcalfe at PARC; the second one will look a little more closely at his work at what was then Xerox PARC and at the state of innovation today.
