Seem like Web Apps and HTML Widgets will win out (or HTML5 Apps to use the current buzz word).

Sort of makes more sense in that it's cross platform -- at least notionally, with so many different mobile browsers that's trickier than it sounds.

Tomi Ahonen has written a piece on how hard it is to monetize apps for iPhone. I don't completely agree, but it's worth a read:
