ADVA's 100G Appeal

7:15 AM -- ADVA Optical Networking (Frankfurt: ADV) received some unannounced help in securing its first publicly announced 100Gbit/s metro system deal, it seems. (See ADVA Makes 100G Debut.)

Responding to questions about the selection process that led to ADVA's deployment at the Amsterdam Internet Exchange B.V. (AMS-IX) , Henk Steenman, the exchange's CTO noted that "we did consider other vendors, but none was able to provide us with a solution that fitted our needs. These are rather specific as we don't need to cover more than 40km in distance or so."

Steenman added: "Typical transport systems are therefore way over-specced, and too expensive … the ADVA solution using the new Finisar 100G DWDM CFP is just fine for us."

Praise indeed for ADVA and an interesting nugget about Finisar Corp. (Nasdaq: FNSR), as the CFP module was only unveiled in March this year at OFC/NFOEC. (See Finisar Announces Leading-Edge 100G Modules).

So is ADVA Finisar's first customer for the new module? The optical components specialist declined to comment on the matter, while ADVA said it couldn't disclose any information about suppliers.
