I think they want consumers to just assume the network will be there and that it will work vs. wondering whether they're on a 3G or 4G link (which should be obvious, but maybe not?).
I think it's an interesting approach and it feels good to see a company say, "We're interested in what you want to do so we can help you with that."
But, as I noted in the video, they really didn't have any other unique positioning left to take. The leading device maker and the leading LTE provider have already set the agenda.
I am sorry but taking the LTE signs down in their flagship store is really embarrassing. What other service AT&T can provide other than its network. By the way I still don't have AT&T service in my San Jose, but I get LTE from Verizon.
You have to keep in mind that Verizon Wireless stuck with EV-DO way too long. There were no further upgrades to do and they were stuck at that 3.6Mbps cap that W-CDMA passed a long time ago.So Verizon Wireless had no choice but to go all out on LTE whereas AT&T and T-Mobile were in a much better position.W-CDMA still had a lot of steam left in it and still does.T-Mobile has the 42Mbps variant running; more than 10 times that of what EV-DO can do today.Sprint and Verizon Wireless has the slowest data among the top four carriers and when Sprint inked a deal with Clear, that left Verizon Wireless as the slowest. So, Verizon Wireless had to quickly deploy LTE to remain competitive whereas the others could wait.
