Cadant C4 CMTS, with software release 3.1 and FlexCAM technology, is available; announces Key Distribution Center with Alopa Networks

DULUTH, Ga. -- ARRIS (Nasdaq ARRS) today announced that the Cadant C4 CMTS, with software release 3.1 and newly-introduced FlexCAM technology, is now commercially available, and in extensive field tests with a number of North American and European MSOs.

With Release 3.1 and ARRIS patented FlexCAM technology, C4 CMTS “hitless” RF sparing is enhanced for automatic sparing operations up to 7+1 cable access module (CAM) redundancy. The feature supports RF sparing operations with no interruption of data or telephony call connections or traffic flow in the event of failover. FlexCAM technology means that cable operators can flexibly mix and match RF sparing groups of various sizes – all within a single chassis. Such flexibility allows cable operators to match their costs with revenue generation potential and customer service level expectations. FlexCAM technology also means that a single Cable Access Module can operate either as an active or spare module based upon card provisioning. One hardware module designed for both functions reduces operational expenses by reducing cable operator inventory, part numbers and special handling.

The hardware-based, wire-speed Layer 3 IP routing performance of the C4 CMTS adds RIP to OSPF route redistribution with route filtering as a key enhancement to the C4’s growing list of supported routing protocols and features. Route redistribution allows operators to support commercial services operation and interfaces to business class networks implementing RIPv2 routing protocols. The C4 performs the key edge-routing protocols for interfacing customer modems and networks to carriers’ core IP networks and internet service providers (ISPs).

In a separate release:

ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS) and Alopa Networks today announced the release of an integrated and scalable Key Distribution Center (KDC) solution. The KDC is a PacketCable back office element that provides the primary authentication mechanism for the entire network and serves as the transportation vehicle for secure provisioning based on SNMPv3 and secure call signaling (IPSEC). Alopa Packet-IP KDC Server is being tested jointly with ARRIS Touchstone Media Terminal Adaptors (MTA) and the Cadant C4 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) to support mutual cable MSO customers worldwide. This testing will enable Alopa to address mass scalability for telephony of the future.
