Skype's Big Data Transformation

NICE, France -- TM Forum Live! -- Although he was speaking to a crowd gathered to hear about how businesses are using big data, Patrick Hilt, director of engineering, Skype Business Operations, could have been giving a lesson on how to become an agile business when he explained how his company is undertaking an important big data transformation.

"Data and the insight derived is crucial to make a better product for our users and to give users a good experience," Hilt said Tuesday during a TM Forum Live! session. But when Hilt looked around at Skype's data architecture, he discovered that it was fragmented like that of many other businesses, with data coming from many different sources (for example, internal operations management databases, marketing database and social media databases).
