BARCELONA -- Airvana Corp., the 3G CDMA femtocell company, has today announced that it will deliver its next-generation LTE and multi-mode 3G/LTE femtocells using Freescale Semiconductor's QorIQ Qonverge product portfolio. The newly-announced QorIQ Qonverge family includes a range of highly integrated, multi-mode processors supporting small cell - femto and pico - through large metro and macro cell applications with a common architecture.
Airvana multi-mode femtocells based on the new Freescale technology will allow operators to accelerate their Long Term Evolution (LTE) data service rollouts while also providing uninterrupted and transparent access to 3G voice and data services. LTE is the global standard for fourth generation high-bandwidth, packet-based wireless networks and is expected to become the platform for enhanced multimedia services. Femtocells will be critical to the success of LTE based on their unique ability to cost-effectively expand wireless coverage and capacity. Multi-mode femtocells will enable operators to provide consumers with an LTE user experience while supporting 3G devices that continue to proliferate and are expected to outnumber LTE devices for several years.
