Adtran Backs Leapfrog's Hosted Wi-Fi

January 10, 2013 |
ATLANTA and HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), and Leapfrog Services, Inc., today jointly announced that Leapfrog has launched a cloud-based hosted Wi-Fi service utilizing the ADTRAN Bluesocket virtual WLAN (vWLAN®) solution. The revolutionary software-based wireless solution centralizes control and management of the WLAN on a hypervisor, making it possible to control wireless access points from anywhere in the world. The innovative ADTRAN Bluesocket vWLAN supports Leapfrog’s commitment to delivering exceptional cloud-based IT solutions, management and support, enabling the company to offer customers highly flexible, scalable and secure managed WLAN services.

As demand for highly-available wireless access in the enterprise continues to grow, Leapfrog eagerly developed a hosted solution based on ADTRAN Bluesocket vWLAN that enables customers to cost-effectively scale their wireless networks to accommodate bandwidth-rich applications, higher throughput, more users and devices, and wider mobility. Furthermore, customers can enjoy more flexibility since the control function does not have to reside on the same LAN as the access points—an important capability for hosted services and when businesses need to efficiently offer and manage multi-site access for employees and guests or public Wi-Fi. By centralizing management onto one cloud-based controller, Leapfrog is able to significantly reduce complexity of wireless network management.

Leapfrog customer Cousins Properties, Inc., a leading diversified real estate company investing in office and retail development projects throughout the Southeast, has chosen to rely on Leapfrog’s hosted WLAN service throughout multiple Class A buildings. Cousins is committed to providing tenants and guests complimentary high-performing wireless connectivity in all its properties’ indoor and outdoor common areas. Since Cousins needed multi-site connectivity, the solution was extremely appealing because they can deploy a standardized solution across all locations without the need for a hardware controller at each location and Leapfrog hosts the network management and control from a centralized point at their NOC. Over the next 12 months, Cousins will deploy access points (APs) that will serve thousands of users on a daily basis.
