SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Cohere Technologies, the innovator of channel detection, estimation and prediction as well as precoding software for 4G and 5G FDD/TDD networks, today announced that it is delivering on its promise to bring to market tomorrow’s mobile technology for today’s network challenges. Cohere’s software solution has been successfully deployed inside an Intel FlexRAN architecture with third-party Layer 2/3 and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solutions, and also within a Cloud RAN platform. Cohere’s software is now ready for mobile operators to commence trials to validate the significant spectrum and capacity multiplier effect on mobile networks.

“We have come a long way in a very short time, moving from proprietary hardware to become a standards-based software company” said Ray Dolan, chairman and CEO. “Cohere addresses one of the biggest opportunities that exist in today’s 4G and 5G networks; leveraging MU-MIMO techniques to dramatically increase network capacity, while also improving performance at the cell edge in a capital efficient manner.”

Spectrum multiplier effect for 4G and 5G FDD/TDD networks Cohere’s pioneering work in the Delay Doppler domain has yielded the simplest and most scalable software-based channel model that can maintain optimal isolation between beams, delivering the spectral efficiency promises of MU-MIMO without any change to the 4G or 5G standards, and without any explicit feedback from mobiles. For the first time, this is possible for both TDD and FDD networks in all frequency bands. Unlike existing approaches, Cohere’s software scales linearly as antennas are added at the base station. Cohere’s software is agnostic to any modulation, and is compliant with the 3GPP and IETF standard.

Cohere software within a Cloud RAN
Cohere is a participating member of the O-RAN Alliance. Cohere’s solution generates an accurate channel estimate with a coherence time long enough to enable most scheduling functions to be done remotely in the cloud. This is the key that unlocks a Cloud RAN platform. The benefits include:

  • Interference coordination between cells, further increasing spectral efficiency

    • Improved performance all the way to cell edge due to inter cell coordination

    • Open, defined interfaces consistent with O-RAN, and a vibrant ecosystem of vendors for a vRAN deployment of 5G and beyond

    • Simpler deployment models using cloud orchestration tools, and AI platforms that can learn from network behavior, and help adapt networks in real time
