Euronews: Nokia & RIM Make Peace on Patents

Nokia Corp., Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) and {complink 858|BT Group plc} lead us toward festive lockdown in today's EMEA roundup.

  • Nokia has settled its differences with RIM by entering into a new patent license agreement that sees the BlackBerry-maker making a one-off and other ongoing payments to the Finnish giant. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The patent dispute centered on Wi-Fi technology. (See Euronews: Nokia Goes After RIM.)

  • BT will have to pay back a combined total of almost £95 million (US$154 million) in refunds to BSkyB Ltd., Talk Talk, Virgin Media, Verizon UK and Cable & Wireless Communications plc after U.K. regulator Ofcom ruled that it had overcharged them for Ethernet services, reports Reuters.

  • Sweden's Tele2 has signed a multi-year deal with NEC Corp. for the expansion and upgrade of Tele2's mobile backhaul across ten European countries. NEC Corp. will be providing its iPasolink microwave radio technology as well as other professional services.
