A multisource agreement (MSA) for a pluggable 100-Gbit/s module interface, the CFP specifications include the module's size, its electrical requirements, and a management interface. It's also designed to be usable for 40-Gbit/s and OC768 interfaces.
The name derives from XFP, the MSA for a 10-Gbit/s small form factor pluggable interface, replacing "X" with "C," the Roman numeral for 100.
